David Mays, founder and CEO of The Source magazine,
is heading back to his radio hosting days with a new nation-wide three hour hip-hop show, "The Source Street Beat." According to New York Times the show is a part of a new Source Radio Network, and will be a subsidiary of the radio syndicate Excelsior Radio Networks and the Source Enterprises, which already includes televised shows
such as 1 hour long The Source: All Access, hosted by Lisa Raye and Treach of Naughty By Nature. Back in 1986, while attending Harvard, Mays landed a job on a local radio show, "Street Beat," leading him to publish a one sheet newsletter, which later on became what now is The Source magazine.

Eminem's family
is featured in a new documentary titled "Eminem's Mum." The hour long film focuses on the unique events leading up to the rapper's mother filing a $10 million dollar lawsuit against her son. Family members featured include Em's aunt Betty, his younger brother Nathan (who also wants to be a rapper), Eminem's uncle Todd & Eminem's grandmother, Betty. Eminem refused to take part in the film.

Eminem's third album, The Eminem Show,
enters the Billboard 200 albums chart at Number One this week after selling more than 284,500 copies, according to Soundscan. The Aftermath/Interscope album was released on Sunday (May 26), so the chart-topping debut marks the first time an album has entered at the top spot without the benefit of a full first week of sales. The Eminem Show was "officially" on sale for only about 36 hours for the chart week that ended Sunday (May 26).
"I guess people couldn't wait to sell this record," said Steve Berman, head of sales and marketing for Interscope Geffen A&M. "I've seen this before but never at this scale...It's amazing. Basically, this is like a movie opening on a Sunday evening and being Number One at the box office for the week. We had, at the most, a 36-hour window with limited public knowledge of availability. All of our advertising runs next week" .
Mike Shalett, the chairman and CEO of Soundscan, explained, "We've never had a record debut at Number One on the Soundscan chart that hasn't had the benefit of a full six days of sales behind it." Soundscan accrues point-of-sale data from more than 17,000 U.S. music retailers, which accounts for more than 85 percent of over-the-counter music-product sales in the nation. Eminem has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide to date. The rapper's last album, The Marshall Mathers LP, moved 1.7 million copies in its first week of release

Snoop Dogg
escapes a jail sentence on Tuesday after an Ohio judge setenced the Westcoast superstar a 30 day suspended jail sentence and a $250 fine for court costs. Snoop was arrested for possessing marijuana during a tour back in October. The tour bus has been pulled over, where officers found Snoop with the marijuana. Snoop had pled "No Contest" to the charges and received a lesser sentence. However, the judge has warned that if Snoop got himself in trouble in Ohio again, that he will be thrown into a jail cell for 30 days. The sentence comes as a sigh of relief as Snoop continues to work on his next solo album, "Paid The Cost To Be The Boss", which is due for release in late September.

Foxy Brown and her younger brother, Pretty Boy
recently conducted a radio interview on the Radio 1 Rap Show, during which she cleared the rumours regarding herself, DefJam and P.Diddy's Bad Boy Records. Foxy admitted that Combs was after her and she actually received a call from him where Combs offered her an opportunity to sign to Bad Boy. However, after various meetings with top man at DefJam, Lyor Cohen, Foxy finally received the deal she was after. The deal is a joint venture between Foxy Brown's Ill Na Na Entertainment and DefJam. From the deal, we should see releases from Foxy's artists, including a duet album with Foxy herself and Reggae artist Babycham.

Eightball & MJG
have become the latest signing to Bad Boy Records as Sean "P.Diddy" Combs continues to rebuild his label. Eightball & MJG decided to sign to Combs' outfit despite offers from So So Def and Cash Money Records due to the freedom of creative control on Bad Boy and also the friendship between both parties played a major factor.
Prior to leaving JCOR records when the label folded earlier this year, 8 Ball & MJG considered releasing their subsequent albums independently or through a deal with Jermaine Dupri's So So Def records or Cash Money Records. "But I just thought about the benefits that my label would get with being with somebody like Diddy and Bad Boy," 8 Ball said. While the group is signed to Bad Boy, 8 Ball and MJG are not signed to the label as solo artists. Additionally, 8 Ball's label 8 Ways is not signed to Bad Boy. "Bad Boy has the right of first refusal in regards to their solo rights," said James McMillan, the group's attorney who brokered the deal. The group's first Bad Boy release has not yet been determined. However, the group has completed an album called Slept On Classics that 8 Ball intends to release on 8 Ways. 8 Ball explains: "It's like a compilation album with all of our songs from other people's albums," 8 Ball said. "The Mase [record], the Mobb Deep song, the Heavy D and Big Pun song, we did a song with Ray Dog when Ray Dog was Ray Dog. Plus we got a new song called "Put That Thang Down" with Jagged Edge. That's going to be the single off the record."
