THINK B.I.G. - 10 YEARS LATER

March 7th 2007 sadly marks the 10th anniversary of a musical icon. Notorious BIG would of only been in his early 30s, had his life not been cut down so early. One of the things that makes BIG’s music so special is that he was still a very young dude, when he passed, and he was able to capture that energy and expression of mid 90s youth. He magically somehow, satisfied the grimy as well as the flossy fans.

“Man, I think what I miss most about BIG aside from his incredible lyrical ability and to make songs is his charisma…he had a likeable personality that he was able to put on records.. like at the end of the day I felt like I personally knew BIG and wanted him to win. Rappers these days lack that ability”, says Most Hated, producer, who remixed 10 crack commandments.

Many of his closest associates describe him as very warm, charming and down to earth. “ He was just so down to earth”, says Styles P, who worked with BIG on Life After Death. “It seemed like the more successful he got, the more humble he remained,” Styles mentioned on a recent interview with Rapindustry.com.

When BIG passed it felt like when the 2nd World Tower fell. With ‘Pac already gunned down in Vegas just 6 months prior, hip hop was already in a state of shock. When BIG got shot, it was the realization that we just got hit again,. There was an anxiety and fear in the air. It felt like an assassination--nobody really knew what to expect. It felt like the beginning of a war.

In the ten years that have passed since BIG was taken from us, hip hop damn sure has not let go. In the party, the Biggie set is where you work up the most sweat. Take Big’s voice put it in a hook and you automatically have a hit record. His voice was commanding and you knew it was him, when you heard it.
Not since, BIG has one MC meant so much to so many audiences. The wordplay, the intensity, the playful wit is what made BIG such a special artist. His rap lines have been re-used a countless number of times by rap artist and r&b artists alike.

As the tenth anniversary approaches, Bad Boy preps the release of a greatest hits album. The album features, two unreleased songs, “Want that old thing back” and “Runnin’ Ya Mouth”. “Through his
words, persona, life and music he was able to open and create opportunities for hip hop as a whole,” Diddy said in a statement. “I wanted to celebrate his legacy, life and work as we mourn his sensless death 10 years ago.” The retrial of the wrongful death lawsuit is set for a retrial later this year. Ms Violetta Wallace is determined, as well as the rest of the hip community, to find out what really happened that night outside the Peterson Automotive Museum. She believes that ex-LAPD officer Dave Mack facilitated the hit from direct orders from the Death Row Records founder Suge Knight.

The case ended in a mistrial in July 2005. But the case was reopened in August 2006.
His murder remains unsolved. We’ll always love Big Poppa…thanks for the music homie….Rest in Peace….
