INDUSTRY INSIDER- weekly recap.
The Inside Scoop on this week in Hip Hop.

Week of 8/21-8/25

So what's really been going on in the hip-hop world nowadays?? Other than Lil Wayne's true age being exposed, Beanie Sigel claiming to be attacked in his own neighborhood, 50 Cent predicting The Game's album to be a flop and the feud between Black Eye Peas' Will.I.Am and Fergie, things seem to be looking rather good for these entertainers we love to hear about so much.

Lil Wayne, also known as, "The Best Rapper Alive"- at least in his eyes - was recently arrested in Atlanta on drug possession charges. He was later released on bail, of course, and apparently based on the rapper's police report, he's not as "Lil" as we thought. Turns out he's more of an older, "Big Weezy." The police report, which was issued to MTV stated that the rapper's true age is about 27 instead of the 23 he boasts so proudly about. Maybe he should think about renaming himself. What do you think?

Beanie Sigel can't seem to remain out of the cop's spotlight huh?? The rapper, whose three albums, "The Truth"- 2000, "The Reason"- 2001 and "The Coming" all landed in the top five slot on the billboard charts, is playing victim for the Philadelphia Police Department. Sigel, 32, told the police that on May 25 he was "boxed in by two cars and surrounded by several men who robbed him of a watch and chain" worth over $77, 000 and then shot him in the shoulder. Police found no evidence of a shooting and attempted to take photos of Siegel's wound in hospital but he refused. According to his attorney, the police were having a hard time fathoming that fact that he was attacked because of his prior charges. It seems as though Mr. Siegel is having tough luck trying to win the sympathy from the police, poor guy.

So how about Will.I.Am and Fergie's beef? Apparently the conflict is derived from an incident that occurred backstage where Fergie redecorated Will's dressing room. She "toilet- papered" his entire dressing room and as a result a song he was writing, for an upcoming Hilary Swank movie, was erased. Luckily, Will was able to produce the song the very next day and hand it in. Whew!!! And after all that, he still has time to promote Fergie's album, The Dutchess due out on September 19th. Watch out Fergie, next time Will won't be as nice!

Haven't we had enough of the 50 Cent / The Game beef?? Apparently, 50 hasn't; he recently told XXL Magazine his prediction that The Game's album, titled THE DOCTOR'S ADVOCATE, will flop. He states he wrote six songs on his last album and that although The Game might be a good rapper, he's definitely a bad songwriter. Besides, if the album does do well, 50 will only reap the album's proceeds, not that he needs the money anyway right?

On the flip side of things, Rapper / Actor Will Smith has signed a deal with the Indian Entertainment company UTV and Sony Pictures to produce two films worth a grand total of $30 million. Under the contract, Will's entertainment company Overbrook, and UTV will serve as co-producers on the films while big name Sony will distribute them in theaters worldwide. I see Will continues to do BIG THINGS!!! He's definitely 50 leaps up from the Fresh Prince of Belair!!

Murder Inc.'s H.N.I.C, Irv Gotti, is back after a three-year duration of federal inquiries. He was acquitted of drug money laundering charges and is now expected to sign a deal with Universal Music Group, the world's largest record corporation; also the same corporation that parted ways with Murder Inc. when the label needed them most. It took some heavy persuasion from Universal's president, Zach Horowitz, to convince Gotti to give Universal a second chance. His goal is to eventually own his own record label but after the turmoil, he has to once again start from the bottom up. Keep your head up Irv, there is sunshine at the end of the tunnel.

Those five talented young women from Diddy's, Making the Band 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, have finally produced a record! Amazingly, Danity Kane's rookie album is running neck in neck with the historical rap duo, Outkast! It's a close call for which group will make it to #1 on the Hits album chart! Their single, Showstopper has a sexy video attached to it. Watch out Outkast, these girls are ready to send ya'll back crying to Ms. Jackson…..for real!

With all that's going on what's a girl to do?? I'll tell you what. Check back next Friday to get the inside scoop for next week's rundown.

Until next week…..Holla!!!!
