Usher is planning to release his next album mid 2007.
"I feel it's about time for me to come out with an album," he said via phone from Atlanta on Tuesday. "I'm not extremely enthused about where music has gone. I say that coming from listening to artists like Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson those great artists and iconic musicians. I feel music is at a standstill." Jermaine Dupri and the production teams of Dre and Vidal and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are all scheduled to collaborate on the record, as is Jay-Z according to Mtv.. Usher, who appears on "Anything" from Jay's Kingdom Come LP, said he and Hova did a trade-off.

WESLEY SNIPES UPDATE: He surrendered to authorities to face federal tax fraud charges and was released on $1 million bond Friday, two months after he was indicted in central Florida. Snipes didn't speak at a court appearance in Ocala. He went there after arriving in Orlando on a private jet Friday from the African nation of Namibia, where he has been filming "Gallow Walker," his publicist said. Snipes was charged back in October for fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid. He was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004. CNN reports, he will be allowed to return to Namibia to finish his film, but must return to his home in Marina del Rey, California, on or before January 10, U.S. Magistrate Gary Jones ruled.

NAS AIRS IT OUT. He recently visited the "Trey the Chocolate Jock Morning Jump-off" show on Chicago's Power 92 and was asked about various allegations Carmen Bryan has made in her new tell-all book, "It's No Secret." Co-host Kendra G. asked Nas if it was true that he once punched Carmen in the face with a closed fist. According to Kendra, Nas quickly said that he wasn't going to defend himself against the book "because this is the type of person who is after only God knows what," Kendra recounted. Nas also told the audience that he had no plans to read the book. As for the part in the book about Nas not wanting to date Beyonce because of her breath, Carmen says it was Nas who told her it should be added to the book. Meanwhile, Nas is interviewed in the new issue of
Complex magazine, Before signing to Def Jam, the rapper was offered a president's job at Atlantic Records which would have made him Jim Jones' boss. When asked about this, he responds: "I'm still his boss [laughs]. I am above him. Who's not above Jim Jones? I don't know any of his records and I'm not even being funny. Like I know he's got a record called Ballin. I hope it sells some records, but I swear to you I've never heard it." He also speaks on Def Jam artists complaining about lack of label support… The music should be enough, and sometimes things slip through the cracks. But people getting mad at Jay is corny. Especially someone like LL Cool J. He's too old of an O.G. to be mad at Jay. He's been at Def Jam since we were kids dreaming about being on Def Jam. We gotta get off this bull**** 'cause I never remember those artists talking about any white executives. That's some slavery s***. If my record comes out and goes wood, I can't blame Jay because it's my doing."

SCARY SPICE DEFENDS HERE STANCE. Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) insists ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy is the father of the baby she's carrying and says she can't imagine why he would publicly question the child's paternity. "I am obviously upset and distressed at some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media," Brown, 31, said in a statement released Thursday by her publicist, Nadine Bibi. "I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way. My main concern is for the well-being of my daughter, Phoenix, and of course the baby. I was astonished what Eddie said. There is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father."
