INDUSTRY INSIDER-
The Inside Scoop on this week in Hip Hop.

Week of 9/4 - 9/8

Summer has come to a close and now it’s time to get prepared for fall gossip.
So much has occurred over the last week, I haven’t the slightest clue where to start.

Shall I begin with news that Rapper / Actor Mos Def was arrested outside of MTV’s VMAs on Thursday night, August 31st. He was detained after an unauthorized performance outside Radio City Music Hall during the Video Music Awards. VIBE reports, Mos Def pulled up in front of the crowded venue at around 10pm to perform for the crowd gathered outside. There was one catch however; this sporadic performance was not included on the bill! It was reported that the officers on the scene inquired about a performance permit. After being told that one was in possession, the police let the one-song masquerade continue. A spokesperson for the NYPD said that officers asked Mos Def and members of his entourage to close down their operation due to unsafe crowd conditions; however it is unclear as to whether or not the group ignored or refused the orders.
Once Mos Def began his performance of a freestyle track tilted, “Katrina Clap,” it was apparent that he was aiming direct disapproval of the Bush administration’s slow response to last year’s hurricane victims. At this point, the police sought to shut down this operation immediately. When the rapper did not close the show upon command, the police began arresting members of his crew, along with the rapper himself. Mos Def was released early Friday morning before the Labor Day holiday, September 1st. The entire ordeal was recorded on tape!
See the unfortunate event HERE. The nerve of those cops! The truth really does hurt!

In other news, another one bites the dust! Singer extraordinaire, Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers has been sentenced to three years and one month in prison for tax evasion and has been ordered to pay $3.1 million back in owed taxed to the Internal Revenue Service. During the hearing last Friday, Isley’s defense attorney argued that the singer should receive probation instead of prison time because of complications from a stroke and a recent bout with kidney cancer. Sad story but unfortunately, the judge showed no mercy, he declined the probation and the request for less time served. That is too bad for the singer who was once Mr. Biggs with a bad attitude, now he’s an older Grandpa, with serious jail time and debt issues to overcome. Good luck with that one Ronald!

Rapper / Actor 50 Cent is back in the news ladies and gentlemen! Didn’t I just report on him two weeks ago? Apparently he’s at odds with the king of New York, P. Diddy over his refusal to relinquish the contractual rights of rapper Mase from his label Bad Boy. He submitted a track titled, “The Bomb,” to Hot 97’s DJ KaySlay. On this track 50 Cent throws several slanders at Diddy, claiming that he [Diddy] is playing games and that he has a secret about Diddy that he knows that he [Diddy] would want 50 to put out. This is not so much a surprise as P. Diddy isn’t known to let former artists go from Bad Boy label without a fight. Although Diddy has now made any official statements regarding 50’s diss, the message boards having been implying that the king of New York has already responded via his new album, “Press Play.” We’re about to have a Part II of the incident that occurred on Hot 97 when the Lox aired it out about Diddy not letting them go from the Bad Boy label.

Was that enough news for you all?? I would say so. Until next week again!
This is ya girl, Miss Hinds! Holla!
